This may sound a bit morbid, but as a life long music fan I’ve always thought about what songs I would want played at my funeral.  It would mean a lot to me to have my own mix tape played at my funeral whenever I meet my maker.  Hopefully that time is a loooong ways away, but these are the things that occasionally occupy the brain of a music nerd.

These are the ones I’ve come up with so far:

  1. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain.  Pretty much goes without saying.  The guitar solo and the feel of the tune just says it all.  (Maybe cut it off about half way through, just saying)
  2. Pink Floyd - Great Gig in the Sky.  Another pretty obvious one.  It’s cliche, I know.  I’m lame, but it would certainly fit the mood of the day.
  3. Stevie Wonder - They Won’t Go When I Go.  A perfect choice—the feel, vibe, chords, and meaning of the tune say it all.

If anyone actually reads this, I’d love to hear back some other peoples’ funeral songs!

This is a quick solo guitar jam cover of Herbie Hancock’s chameleon I recorded.  No overdubbing, just one guitar track

"It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony."

Sly Stone is homeless living in a van. Damn that's sad.

This is a song I recorded about 7 months ago.  I can’t even describe the feeling of putting this one together.  It truly just grew naturally and morphed into something totally different and personal.  I think i’ll always be proud of this recording.

Jazz gigs

I’m excited to be working with a booking agent (who was also my former bass teacher), getting together some duo jazz gigs for me and a great guitarist I’ve played with.  I have a deep love for jazz, but haven’t had that many opportunities to do jazz gigs as of late.

"In my music, I’m trying to play the truth of what I am. The reason it’s difficult is because I’m changing all the time."
