This may sound a bit morbid, but as a life long music fan I’ve always thought about what songs I would want played at my funeral. It would mean a lot to me to have my own mix tape played at my funeral whenever I meet my maker. Hopefully that time is a loooong ways away, but these are the things that occasionally occupy the brain of a music nerd.
These are the ones I’ve come up with so far:
- Funkadelic - Maggot Brain. Pretty much goes without saying. The guitar solo and the feel of the tune just says it all. (Maybe cut it off about half way through, just saying)
- Pink Floyd - Great Gig in the Sky. Another pretty obvious one. It’s cliche, I know. I’m lame, but it would certainly fit the mood of the day.
- Stevie Wonder - They Won’t Go When I Go. A perfect choice—the feel, vibe, chords, and meaning of the tune say it all.
If anyone actually reads this, I’d love to hear back some other peoples’ funeral songs!
